Applications to register new GI products

Important notice

Applicants are advised to exclude all personal data (including names, personal telephone numbers and email addresses). Personal data that is included is deemed to have been supplied pursuant to a legal process, is susceptible to due treatment for the purposes of managing a GI application and is liable to be published. 

Agricultural products

The form for the single document for registration of an agricultural product as a protected designation of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indication (PGI), as well as the form for the product specification for a traditional specialty guaranteed (TSG), are available in Annexes to Regulation (EU) 668/2014.

Amendments to product specifications

The forms for amendments to the product specification of PDO and PGI in the food sector, as well as TSG are available in Annexes to Regulation (EU) 2022/892.

The documents and information required shall be communicated to the European Commission as follows:

  • for the competent authorities of EU countries, through the digital systems made available by the Commission (e-Ambrosia);
  • for the competent authorities and producers of non-EU countries, as well as natural or legal persons who have a legitimate interest under Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, via AGRI-GEOGRAPHICAL-INDICATIONSatec [dot] europa [dot] eu (AGRI-GEOGRAPHICAL-INDICATIONS[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu) using the required forms.

Wine products

The forms for the single document to register a wine product as a protected designation of origin (PDO) or protected geographical indication (GI) are available in the Annex to Regulation (EU) 2019/34.

Amendments to product specifications

The forms for amendments to the product specification of PDO and PGI wine products are available in Annexes to Regulation (EU) 2019/34 as well.

The documents and information required shall be communicated to the Commission as follows:

1. For the competent authorities of EU countries, through the information systems made available by the Commission (e-Ambrosia) in accordance with Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1183 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1185;

2. For the competent authorities and representative professional organisations of non-EU countries, as well as natural or legal persons who have a legitimate interest under this regulation, via AGRI-GEOGRAPHICAL-INDICATIONSatec [dot] europa [dot] eu (AGRI-GEOGRAPHICAL-INDICATIONS[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu) using the required forms.

To obtain information on:

  • the practicalities of accessing information systems,
  • the methods of communication,
  • how the required information is to be made available,

Preparation of a single Document

 

Spirit drinks

The form for the single document to register a spirit drink as a geographical indication (GI) is available in the Annex to Regulation (EU) 2021/1236.

Amendments to product specifications

The forms for amendments to the product specification of spirit drink GIs are available in Annexes to Regulation (EU) 2021/1236 as well.

The documents and information required shall be communicated to the Commission as follows:

  • for the competent authorities of EU countries, through the digital systems made available by the Commission (e-Ambrosia).
  • for the competent authorities and producers of non-EU countries, as well as natural or legal persons having a legitimate interest under Regulation (EU) 2019/787, via AGRI-GEOGRAPHICAL-INDICATIONSatec [dot] europa [dot] eu (AGRI-GEOGRAPHICAL-INDICATIONS[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu) using the required forms.
