Active farms
Portugal has around 259 000 active farms, which cover around 3.6 million ha of utilised agricultural area.
Family farms
Up to 80% of farms are family-based in Portugal.
Female farmers
Female farmers represent 39% of Portugal’s labour force.

Goal and strategy

The Portuguese strategy, which combines regional and national elements, is built upon active management of the entire territory, based on innovative and sustainable agricultural and forestry production. The Portuguese CAP Plan seeks the sustainable development of farming, food security, forestry and rural areas.

Portugal’s 2023 annual performance report on the national website

The annual performance report (APR) presents: spending, outputs, and results achieved through the CAP Strategic Plan (CSP).

The APRs cover a qualitative and a quantitative overview of the CSPs’ implementation, providing an outline of the expenditures and performance achieved.

Legal basis

Regulation (EU) 2021/2115 establishing rules on support for strategic plans to be drawn up by EU countries under the common agricultural policy (CAP Strategic Plans).
