EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski visited Kazakhstan on 27-31 May 2024, accompanied by a business delegation of senior representatives from the EU agri-food sector. The visit included the opening of the EU pavilion at the InterFood Astana fair, where business delegates could also showcase their products. The purpose of the visit was to facilitate European agricultural food and beverage exports to Kazakhstan and expand their presence in the Central Asian markets.

The programme of the business delegation provided the representatives of the European agri-food sector with a platform to discover Kazakhstan’s market and to make direct business contacts both in Almaty and Astana. The visit included market intelligence activities, with a seminar and field visits, as well as business-to-business matchmaking events. Kazakh authorities and businesses were also invited to a business forum in Astana, to learn more about EU agri-food products and their key characteristics of quality, authenticity, safety, and sustainability.
An official dinner was hosted by Commissioner Wojciechowski, with 179 guests and networking opportunities. The EU presented a pavilion at the Interfood Astana fair, showcasing 250 EU agri-food products from all 27 Member States. The High-Level Mission also aimed to open more direct avenues of communication with Kazakh counterparts and promote closer agricultural partnerships with Kazakhstan and other countries in the region. The Commissioner additionally engaged with international and Kazakh media, and was featured in outlets such as Astana Times , the Kazakh Telegraph Agency or Kazinform, enhancing media outreach.
