Report
The workshop took place as part of a series of meetings by the subgroup on contingency plan for ensuring food supply and food security within the expert group for agricultural markets and the expert group for markets and trade in fishery and aquaculture products (MTFAP). The aim of these events is to share practical expertise between EU countries, stakeholders, non-EU countries and international organisations. This workshop focused on gaining academic insight into the creation of a contingency plan, to be activated when there is a crisis that affects all or part of the food system and puts in danger food security within the EU.
It was organised by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) together with the three Directorates General – Agriculture and Rural Development, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and Health and Food Safety – leading the development of the contingency plan, which will include the creation of an EU food crisis response mechanism, as well as a set of guidelines on how to respond in the event of a crisis.”
