EU AgRI 2040 Conference

The conference introduced the recently adopted communication, "New Strategic Approach to Research and Innovation for competitive, resilient and sustainable agriculture, forestry, rural areas and food systems: Future-proofing EU agri-food through AgRI 2040 and Food 2040".

The two-day event, brought together key stakeholders who helped shape the priorities of the next Horizon Europe EU Research and Innovation Framework Programme and the future European Competitiveness Fund.

Over two days, policymakers, researchers, farmers, foresters, businesses, innovators, start-ups, SMEs, advisers, NGOs and other stakeholders exchanged ideas on and co-identified priorities for the next generation of EU research and innovation for agriculture, forestry and rural areas (AgRI 2040) through interactive discussions in nine thematic breakout sessions:

• Climate change and biodiversity;
• Soil, agri-ecosystems, water and nutrient capital; 
• Cropping systems; 
• Livestock systems;
• Bioeconomy in agriculture, forestry and rural areas; 
• Multifunctional forests; 
• Rural areas;
• Stronger agri-food value chains;
• Digitalisation, artificial intelligence and robotics
