The workshop on “Sustainable Animal Nutrition Solutions for the Transition Towards Climate Neutral Livestock Production Systems" will be organised by the US and EU stakeholders and industry in the framework of the EU-US Collaboration Platform on Agriculture (CPA) supported by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) and the United States Department of Agriculture.
It will focus on efforts to align metrics and methodologies to calculate the environmental impact of feed.

Description
The online event will take the form of a dedicated stakeholder and industry-led workshop. It will focus on sustainable feed issues and start with one of the key areas of additional synergies, reflecting on more closely aligned metrics and methodologies to calculate environmental impact of feed.
Proposals that will be discussed could maximise the enabling capacity of innovative animal nutrition and sustainable feed solutions to accelerate the transition of US and EU livestock production systems towards climate neutral, low environmental impact value chains.
The potential key outcomes of the workshop could be:
- the setting up a stakeholder mapping of existing and “pipeline” initiatives for the calculation of environmental footprint for feed production. This sector currently accounts for up to 80% of GHG emission linked to livestock and aquaculture production systems;
- a closer Trans-Atlantic definitory and methodological frameworks.
Background
The US and EU feed sector hold jointly a global leadership role in the development and implementation of innovative feed production and animal nutrition solutions via best practice guidance. This joint approach also covers the role and development of sustainable feed additives and feed processing technologies as key technology drivers to increase feed resource efficiencies while reducing environmental impacts of livestock and aquaculture production.
