Long-term vision for the EU's rural areas – rural perspectives for sustainable recovery

The Commission’s Communication on its long-term vision for the EU’s rural areas was presented, with a particular focus on sustainable recovery, rural opportunities, the rural action plan, and the role of stakeholders in realising the ambition of the vision.

The long-term vision for the EU’s rural areas seeks to create a vision for the future of rural communities, which encompasses all EU policies relating to rural areas. It includes concrete actions to address the key problems facing these communities and to promote opportunities that exist for them.

The Communication is an important and comprehensive contribution to the shaping of rural policies in the EU. To support the shared goals of the vision outlined in it, a Rural Pact will be developed with national authorities and rural stakeholders, which will provide a common framework for the engagement and cooperation of a wide range of actors at EU, national, regional and local level.
